3 days to Carolina

[At left, Sunday morning in New Orleans after the Parade]

Sunday February 20. Continuing Ruth’s New Orleans & Louisiana redux took us up I-55 to her old rental summer/weekend river camp in Killian and nearby Southeastern Louisiana University in Hammond, her graduate school. We’re happy to report both are still standing (the former rather feebly, shown at right).

Well, since we realized we left a closet of clothes at the La Quinta in Shre
veport we drove straight north, picked them up, then trudged eastward to Vicksburg, MS for the night.

February 21, 22 the warm weather continues!

Robert Trent Jones, J
r and the state of Alabama teamed up to boost interest in Alabama golf tourism. Since we were on our way to Atlanta we had booked an early afternoon tee time at an RTJ course in Oxmoor Valley, near beautiful Birmingham, AL. Beautiful Birmingham? Oxymoron? Not anymore. The smokestacks of steel mills are long gone. Starbucks are everywhere (unless you’re looking for one), well-styled buildings, many institutions of higher learning are evident, upscale and down home restaurants of all choosing dot the cityscape.

We loved playing the “Ridge” course so much we signed up to play the “Valley” early the next day. Again we were pleased with the course and the beautiful setting (scores do not matter). [The RTJ course at Oxmoor at left]

By late afternoon we arrived in Marietta, GA, a northwest Atlanta suburb. There we spent important time with our bereaved friend Karl McMillin who recently lost his wife Linda who died unexpectedly on Valentine’s Day. Karl was holding up, but the absence of Linda was palpable.

Arriving about midnight we slept soundly at Tom’s cousin Kim’s comfortable home in Asheville, NC.
